The Foundations
The Five Pillars & Articles of Faith
Islam rests on five acts of devotion (Arkan al-Islam) and is believed in through six articles of faith (Arkan al-Iman) — the outward practice and the inward belief.
The Five Pillars of Islam
The Testimony
To bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger — the doorway to faith.
The Prayer
Five daily prayers that anchor the day in remembrance and keep the heart turned toward God.
The Alms
An obligatory share of one's wealth given to the needy — purifying wealth and softening the heart.
The Fast
Fasting the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset — a school of patience, gratitude, and God-consciousness.
The Pilgrimage
The journey to Makkah, once in a lifetime for those able — the ummah gathered as one before God.
The Six Articles of Faith
The inward beliefs (Iman) that the Prophet ﷺ named when asked about faith.
1 · Belief in Allah
The One God — without partner, likeness, or equal.
2 · His Angels
Beings of light created to serve and carry out God's command.
3 · His Books
The revealed scriptures, culminating in the Qur'an.
4 · His Messengers
The prophets sent to every people, from Adam to Muhammad ﷺ.
5 · The Last Day
Resurrection and the accounting before God.
6 · Divine Decree
That all good and outcome unfolds by God's knowledge and will (Qadar).
